hought about holding out and posting this tomorrow. Pacing the goods, if you know what I mean? But, what the hell. Why not, I figured. Maybe tomorrow I'll be able to come up with something better. Golly I hope so. Enjoy.

Bitch don't make me hit you again.

I practiced with my Pigma Pen some more when I got home last night, and I've been inking up a storm... Sadly, it's not the wedded bliss I thought it'd be. Here's last night's doodle page- back when things were still ok. =_= What happened you ask? It's only been 48 hours, right? Well. We're working on it, but if this bullshit keeps up we're totally breaking up.

Let's just chock this up to lessons in getting-to-know-your-equip. Problem is, she led me on. The Pigma "brush" pen, is TECHNICALLY not a brush at all! It's really just a soft marker, with a fiber tip. The problem is that the fine fiber tip doesn't stay fine very long. It's wont to split up a bit at the ends after some use (and lemme tell you, I've been PRACTICING.)

48 hours after I declared eternal love, she starts fucking up all over the place. *Shakes head* I thought what we had was special. So instead of clean, flowing lines, you've got gunky, wobbly work. Say good-bye to details.

I'm trying to compromise by drawing BIGGER. Maybe that'd work, right? Well.. we'll just have to see. But in the mean time, let's take a look at happier times:

Photobucket

Note: This didn't actually HAPPEN. I was sitting down, sulking over my Pigma Pen and imagined it all in my head like some sort of schadenfreude high dipshit. So.. Yeah. I'm not really a bitch. Only an imaginary one. / disclaimer.

Now we can make love!

Hi low folks! It’s been a while hasn’t it? I could come up with a list of excuses for my hiatus, but to be honest, most of it falls under the lack of comedy September had wrought. That, and because thanks to Jam and that man I’m sweet on, I’ll soon be jumping HMS eljay for a site of my very own. (cue giggling)

I’ll have a title to call my own! Wheee! Not to mention some semblance of permanence for all this snarkadoodle tomfoolery.

It’s all very overwhelming- the reality of getting my own place. It kind of feels like I’ll finally be moving out of the house; it’s all very exciting and kind of nerve wrecking: What happens if I can’t catch any readers? Or even if I do snag some fans, what happens if my regular broadcasting gets interrupted and they forget me? What happens if they don't really like me, if at all?

But I’m getting ahead of myself again. The overwhelming reality of the site aside, it always takes a little shove from the right powers that be to get me started again. In this case it's darling Sara, for being a fan (looove you!), and Alice fer the brush pen tip off!

Gawd National Bookstore- you've been holding out on my all this time. =_= Jerkface. I thought we were friends?!

I expect I'll be tinkering around with it a lot more now and try to get a grip on things. It's certainly not like a regular pen. Inking with a brush might lack the surgical line work, but it's definitely got good definition. You might wobble (as you will see in my first couple of panels) but it’s anything but squeaky clean sterile. Instead, it's got a thin tip for fine lines and a belly at the bottom; it makes my inking flow better. It looks better organic. (grin)

HOWELL. Enough of this psychobabble. Here are the Hourlies I drew yesterday, Oct 12. I would’ve posted it last night, but I got in late (-drunk).
I’ll doodle some more again today (day job willing). Enjoy!

An attempt with India ink and a brush.

It's dire times like these I feel so blessed to still have the bare necessities. Normal life is resuming in my household and I've had to return to work as of yesterday. I wish I could say the same about the rest of the country... We just can't seem to catch a break.

Unless you've lived under a rock for the last 48 hours, you would have had your fill of pictures and video clips starring Typhoon Ondoy wreaking pure havoc in the Philippines. So many dead, hundreds more missing, and thousands totally displaced. They've lost everything to Ondoy; lives have quite literally been swept away in the storm while others (3 of my officemates for example) are still perched on their roof tops, waiting for the waters to recede. That said, I won't post any more media of the destruction here. Instead, here's some simple information on how you can help out:

...and some important numbers for those who might need it:

For DISTRESS calls > PNP office: 722-0540 or 721-8574 (SMART) 0919-282-1142 (GLOBE) 0927-580-7881.

This whole month has been pretty shitty as far as things go. And I don't mean in the "haha, I have a work piled as high as my tits" sort of shitty. It's been dark, and cruel, and the world's been shifting through this overdrive of inhumanity without pause. I won't expound on grief or pain- I've been lucky enough to still have all those close to me alive and well *knocks on head*; I won't pretend to harbor some sort of scathing hurt for these (though familiar) strangers who have lost their lives this month- or year, for that matter.

Yet all the same... Christ, I didn't think I'd feel this way until I was at least my grandmother's age. I mean, when you're below 80 and STILL your friends, or friends of your friends start biting the dust every other weekday while you're out for lunch, you really think twice about leaving the house. I suppose death has just circled too close for comfort (not that death is characteristically "comforting" hawhaw) ... Suffering is something we're accustomed to seeing on the TV screen. It's almost infantile how we assume that stuff like this is the sort of thing that happens to somebody else. But then again, we're all somebody else, to somebody else- aren't we?

This is the human race, my friends. And it appears like we've stepped into a turd pile.

It's times like these I've really seen the merit of comics, or as them old people call 'em: "funnies". Some of them are just crass or poorly done. Some are just plain stupid but they make you LOL for realz and not just for the sake of it. And then there are those that step it up far higher- gems that are poignant in their own way. They brush against important issues, but without cramming an opinion down your throat. They're fundamentally charming (well.. except for maybe R.Crumb, but even he's something special) and now more than ever, I'm understanding the relevance of the telling of such stories, frame by frame. So yes, once again folks. Here I go...trying. )

This is technically a RT, but whatthahell-

SO... yeah. I've been busy

  • Sep. 18th, 2009 at 5:40 PM

Sigh... it always works this way. I have a glorious amount of free time on my hands, and then every client on our roster spontaneously decides that it's time to whip us back into work. To cut things short: the last coupla days have been hellish. I've been eating fastfood feelings so much lately, I can't remember what a plate of home cooked food tastes like. Heh. Less sodium for one. Anywho- It's been awhile folks... but here you go. Hope it's clear enough.

note: BTW- "OT" means "over time"

PS: I know, I know.. it's a shitty looking shuttle. It looks like a bloody meat locker that's headed for the border. Geez. It just kills me. I can barely draw people, but when it comes to landscapes I totally fail. That is...unless it's just a meadowy countryside with nothing but some v's scattered about to indicate blades of grass. -_- Feh. Why is it every car I do looks like Mr. Bean's?

Absolutely beautiful. Nick Cave has one of the most deep and haunting voices ever. His poetry will keep you glued still, dreading the worst, but rapt with curiosity.

This cat town, where skinny kitties smoke cigarettes and appreciate fine music, will stay with you for days. With gorgeous animation, lovely poetry and silky narration by Nick Cave, "The Cat Piano" is a must-see

I suppose GMA is good for one thing- September 7 was a gloriously soggy holiday! My condolences to the masses of INC mourners, but all the same, it was one of the best burtdays evah! Giz and I cleaned up good for a day out at High Street... It was nice and quiet with only a scant number of people making the rounds. We stuffed ourselves with salmon, dill pizza at Italianni's (soup and steak too), fooled around in Fully Booked and by the day's end, I was the proud owner of a brand new pair of strappy black heels! ;) ;) Some days really are perfect. KARATE KICK PA EFFECT!

This one looks good :o)

"Patton Oswalt has his star turn in this week’s big indie release, Big Fan, an unusual sports drama from the writer of The Wrestler. Oswalt (who is probably best known for giving a voice to Remy the rat in Ratatouille), usually quite the comedian, goes dark in this Sundance hit. He plays Paul Aufiero, a Staten Island parking-garage attendant who is the world’s biggest New York Giants fan (to the point of near insanity). When Paul sees the star quarterback at a club and asks for an autograph, he ends up getting beaten black and blue by the football player and his posse. Paul then has a moral dilemma—does he sue the team and bring down the players he spends his life obsessing about? Or does he let the Giants off easy, despite the injustice? Critics love the film so far; Oswalt creates a character that is both heartbreaking and funny, and apparently, appealing even to people who couldn’t care less about football."

Time stamps and the like

  • Sep. 2nd, 2009 at 11:22 AM

(A few days ago, I started a post that went like this:)

Contrary to what some people might think, I very rarely travel. I've never seen seating space past the economy class, and I've only been to the US once when I was 10. We were three: my dad, Ping and myself. We went to Disneyland, and spinning tea cups are about all I can remember. Looking back, I haven't seen much of the world... (although, still more than the average Jane, I'm guessing):

1.) Singapore (for 4 years)
2.) Malaysia (for a week maybe? During our 4 year stay in Singapore)
3.) Hong Kong (another week, in '94)
4.) Bangkok (for about a week. I was fat and 18, that much I remember)
5.) Subic (Once, around '02)
6.) Bohol (Once, around '04 or '05. We loved it : )
7.) Baguio (LOTSA times by car)

Hurm. I think we stopped over Hawaii once, and I stood in the airport lounge for about 30 minutes. Does that count? :/ All the same, a new addition to the list will be ticked in after a few hours! My mom and Ire flying to Shanghai tomorrow to meet my dad during his business trip! Woot woot!

Actually, I say "Woot" but I don't really mean it. In all honesty, I don't think the trip has quite sunk in yet. I was offered the ticket and I took up on it just a few weeks ago. We'll only be staying a few days (4 to be exact), and in the tradition of great timing, last week I was hit with a mutant cough that sounds like gravel zipping through my lungs and pipes. I've been sucking in meds through the Pulmoaide for days, accidentally smacking myself in the face with the mask's elastic band every time. The antibiotics I'm on make me feel and taste like throw up too... I'm wary.

Sorry, downer ba? I'm gigil and excited to see something new again, but all the same I'm wary of the risk of quarantine. O.O

/end.

********

No, I wasn't quarantined (evidentally:) I had a blast (which I shall mercilessly elaborate unto you all in due time. mwehehe) I'm back now, and glad of it. All the same, post vacation blues trickle in from time to time. I'll be sharing more of this trip soon enough. In the mean time, blame it on sheer laziness, because I got nothing :}

Except this comic from The Gunshow. Enjoy:

Only a precious few will really appreciate this video :} Log on to youtube and check out The Guild. Felicia Day is adorable!

Thank gog for links. Sanity's been stretched thin as of late, since my comicking time has been cut short. Work's finally rolled around and even if I COULD break out the paper and ink during my lunch break, those hours have been taken by brainstorming with the team over fast food or whatever other munchies our sorry salaries can afford. Have you ever gotten that feeling, when you've got a joke or a story to tell and you can't WAIT to just blurt it out to someone, but you can't because you're the bug under the macro lens? Not that... you know.. bugs talk and crack jokes under normal circumstances... just.. Okay yeah, that lacked flow. Sigh.

And for those who grew up with Gundams, have you heard the latest those crazy Japs are doing? In honor of the Gundam's 30th anniversary, they went ahead and BUILT the thing! The head dress and colors look very Wing Zero-esque, don't they?

So far, it's a just a life-sized statue that can move it's head, but all the same, isn't it exciting? :D

Oh, and here's the (poor) DIY version. ) Eljay embeds pictures at a really small scale, and I'm still uncertain how to manipulate the sizing, so sorry it's a such a tiny picture. Its little exhaust fans and wires are joookyooot! ^^

I've been tripping on Andrew Bird, Bowie, Cat Power, and ReSpekt... specifically her song "Braille". Beautiful!

In other news, doodling at work's gotten a mite harder as of late. It's been reflecting on me poorly and although I SWEAR I get my shit done on time, our boss always, always passes my desk and takes a piss break when I'm elbow deep in my inks. sigh. I've resorted to doodling in bursts- "hourlies" as they're called.

It starts off a little rough, and ends a bit sloppy, but lemme know what you think! : )
